Are doorways portals?

I’ve been painting my living room (first room of many I’m sure) and wondering if I should put signs above each entryway and doorway that it is a portal. Portal from living room to kitchen, to sunroom, and so on.

We often have this idea that a portal is only used in science fiction or is New-Agey/woo woo. But really, if you consider what a portal means, it could be a way to set your mind to focus on whatever space you are in.

For example, if I use the portal from my living room to my kitchen, I can prepare myself for preparing a meal. I don’t want to put my latest frustration into my food (even if I’m only cooking for me), so to be reminded that I’m in a different space and need a different mindset is a good thing. It is a portal to a different realm.

What is a realm? According to Google’s Oxford Languages dictionary a realm is “a field or domain of activity or interest.” So I have my kitchen realm, which differs from my living room realm, which differs from my bedroom realm. Although, I do eat in the living room in front of the TV, and I read in the bedroom even though the lighting is better in the living room. Does that mean there are fuzzy edges to realms? Cross-over realms? Why be so angular about rooms anyways?

Maybe there are realms within realms. If I use the portal to exit my home, I am definitely in a different realm when I step outside. When I come back into my home, the realm once again changes. So my home is my realm and my kitchen and other rooms are realm-realms. And that would mean my shower is my realm-realm-realm or triple realm or realm3 [realm to the third power, in case the superscript doesn’t show up].

Obviously, I’m not the only one who has thought about this portal business. The wardrobe (or chiffarobe or closet) in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe by C. S. Lewis used portals to get those children in and out of Narnia. I’m sure there are many, many other stories about portals, like The Phantom Tollbooth for one, and how about the Monsters, Inc. movie? But has anyone written or told a story about a portal between the living room and the kitchen? Hmm… I might be on to something here!

So today is a bit of a chit-chat. I haven’t talked with my guides about portals yet. I’ll have to use my heart portal for that. I’ll let you know what they think.

Thanks for stopping by!
